Search engine optimization (SEO) is just as important for a blog as it is for any type of website. While the primary objective of SEO is to achieve high rankings in search results, it involves more than just providing highly relevant content. These days, search algorithms also take into account site performance in terms of reliability, load times, and bandwidth usage along with platform compatibility (i.e. mobile).
Algorithms are also increasingly being made more sophisticated in that they can detect deceptive practices used by webmasters who attempt to manipulate rankings. Bloggers in particular are advised to avoid excessively bloating of their blogs with unnecessary keywords by carefully defining their blog taxonomy. While content is important, context is critical.
Fortunately, implementing SEO in WordPress is fairly straightforward. I recommend using the plugin called Yoast SEO. With more than one million installations, it is the most popular WordPress extension specifically developed for bloggers
